A couple months ago I was asked by Kirsty and Bronwyn of Encraftment Market asked me to design their poster for their Winter Market. I was told, “Something Winter Wonderlandy”, I was also given some inspiration images. After a couple ideas and tweaks, this is what we ended up with:
A very long time ago (end of June 2013), I posted about how I was lusting over purple hair, well, after posting that, I finally booked in an appointment to go to see my hairdresser, Jess at Holmwood & Rossall Hairdressing. And like I said in my post, I dread the maintenance of a full head of solid purple, so at first I only got the ends of my hair done.
It’s one of those posts again where I apologise for not posting, though, I do have a legitimate reasoning for why I haven’t been. Not only have I been working hard, I’ve also been in Asia! That was over January, the rest of the time I have been working full time and also doing work outside of those set hours. I’ve been working on invites, photography jobs, and I’ve also been working on Hazed Magazine with Hazel, which has now gone into print, with the second print issue coming out soon!
All in all, Summer has been rather busy! One thing I did learn was to make a Pavlova! I know, I know, what do on Earth do I mean by that! Well, I’ve never made a Pavlova, and I have rarely had it. I’ve only really had it if it happens to be at a BBQ, which isn’t often. I can’t say I’m a huge fan myself, all that sugar makes me rather ill (I have a crazy low tolerance for sugar).
My first attempt at a Pavlova was rather bad, I attempted to make one for a friend’s graduation and well, I didn’t realise that they don’t raise in height when baked, so I didn’t bother to make it very high and it ended up being rather thin! Attempt #2 (Which is this Pav I’m showing you) was a lot better!)
Lets stop with the rambling and get into the recipe!
They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach and for the last six years, I have done alright in that department. However, his birthday was last month, and what did I do? I didn’t do anything, that’s what. My reasonings for not doing so were valid though! So a simple request was put in by him, Oreo truffles. This request alone took me nearly a month just to put into action. So here we are …
No words needed for this post.
But in all seriousness, I am so excited! I’ve been so tied down working, and working on projects for other people, oh and being sick with the flu (fun!) and this has been the highlight of my life this month!
The other day JG came down from the Auckland branch (work) and visited us folk here in Christchurch, he told me that he would be arriving just in time for morning tea so asked for cookies and because I have wanted to try this out for a while, I thought I’d give it a go.
It’s a very simple cookie recipe, then splitting the dough in half and adding cocoa to one half, then baking them together to create a awesome “two in one” situation. I also created a cake over the weekend which I won’t bother posting a recipe of, as I didn’t take a photo of what it looks like inside. But I’ll post more about that at the end of this post.
What you’ll need for the cookies:
• 2 Cups plain flour
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 170 g unsalted butter, melted
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 1/2 cup white sugar
• 1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
• 1 egg
• 1 egg yolk
• 2 cups chocolate chips (drops or chopped up from a block is fine)

(Update: Since writing this post, I have gone and gotten purple here, you can see photos, here).
Right now, there is nothing I want more than purple hair, that and eternal warmth!!! Especially with the temperatures slowly dropping more and more!
For so long, I’ve swooned over all the images of lilac hair on Tumblr (or as I like to call it, mermaid hair), but I’ve convinced myself that lilac hair will not suit my tanned face, at all. This is fed by the fact I haven’t seen many, if not any, images of tanned girls with lilac hair and if I have, they obviously haven’t convince me that it would suit me. I also can’t bring myself to have purple hair and black eyebrows, I just can’t. No. That’s just a no no.
From that heart break, I went into deep purples, but then I am so lazy when it comes to haircare, I could not maintain the regrowth. But still, one can dream, can’t she?
Ah, I have such admiration for those who work full time, manage side projects AND find time to blog too, because I struggle and even more so lately, especially with being sick.
Give me a second though, while I stop typing and just sigh in happiness. I love my new job, it’s great! I’ve been working hard the last month I’ve been there, designing up different design concepts for the website revamp (which is essential to them) and on Monday the 3 main guys in the company went over them and one was decided on, my favourite one! Score!
Anyway, I’m still slightly sick but getting better, so today I will post about two of my favourite things. Whoopie pies and teal (turquoise)!

Ah Winter, I’m really not a fan. It’s that time of year where I spend most of my time laying low at home. A time for baking adventures, life-long cuddles with DC, delicious baths, and just general hardwork on my Winter coat (food based). What I hate the most though, is the sun setting so early, I hate leaving home in the dark and coming home in the dark. I’m all for for later sunrises, mainly because it makes my drive to work slightly better while I sit in traffic. Hmmm actually, my hate for the early sunsets is actually out weighed by just the cold in general.
The cold and I don’t get a long, thanks to my amazing blood circulation (well, lack of). So when Hazel from Hazel Loves Design asked me if I’d like to make an inspiration board for her latest issue of Hazed Magazine, I knew I had to do a Winter themed spread based around the home. The only requirement, everything had to be Kiwi.
So to stick with my love for being indoors over Winter, I created a “wish list” for home items to make the hibernation even better. Can you believe that all this funky stuff is Kiwi made!*
I started my new job on Monday, very exciting! I have implemented some changes already, yay! Now I’m in the process of researching different stores within the same market, finding information to backup all the changes I want to make and just general research on how to improve the company’s website, it’s going to be a huge overhaul! :D
It’s been so chilly here in Christchurch the last few days, especially yesterday! It snowed! I won’t lie, I was in fear most of the day, I really didn’t want to have to drive all the way to the other side of town, in the snow. It was a pretty sight this morning though, seeing the white mountains in the background on the way to work.
Speaking of all this cold weather, I have to admit that brownies are my favourite thing to make in the Winter. Yum! Especially if they are served warm with a bit of ice cream on the side. Yum! Best way to achieving a cosy Winter coat!
On my first day, I took in brownies! Everyone loved it! I’m unsure when it was all finished though, I went to the staff room at lunch and it had all gone!!!
What’s your favourite Winter treat?
